Lenten Food Drive

As we prepare our hearts for the joy of Easter Morning, the community of St. Matthew CES  will  be partnering with the Markham Food Bank to assist families in need during this season of  Lent. We will be participating in a Lenten Food Drive during the week of March 27th-31st.

Black Canadian 365 Virtual Event

February 1st had staff and students participate in D.O. Gibson’s Black Canadian 365 event.  We look forward to welcoming D.O. Gibson to St. Matthew on Monday, February 27th at 1:15 p.m. for his H.O.L.L.A. Presentation to our school community of staff & students.  We welcome parents/guardians and caregivers to attend this wonderful presentation.

St. John’s Ambulance Therapy Dogs Visit SMW!

What an amazing way to start the week by having St. John’s Ambulance Therapy Dogs visit with our FDK and Core Program students.

Students learned about dog safety and had the opportunity to engage in making new friends with therapy dogs, Addison, Dexter and Willow.

Guest Speaker Welcomed at SMW

On Wednesday, November 2nd, it was an honour to welcome Lieutenant (Navy) Lesley Fox to St. Matthew CES.

Lieutenant Fox is a chaplain with the Canadian Armed Forces and she helped us prepare for upcoming Remembrance Day reflections and activities.




A Successful Spook-A-Thon at SMW!

On Monday, October 31st, our incredible Catholic School Council, along with many dedicated parent volunteers, hosted St. Matthew’s Halloween Spook-A-Thon.

Students enjoyed a ‘haunted house’ designed by our Grade 8 students, as well as games organized and offered by Grade 7 students in Ms. Cannistra’s class.  Halloween activities, cookie decorating, prizes, music and more were part of fun-filled day!

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

As a school community, we came together on Friday, September 30th, to honour the victims, survivors and communities of the residential school system.  This day was also one to honour our Indigenous brothers and sister, listen, learn and educate together.

Every child matters.


Celebrating SMW Students at the Markham Fair

We are proud of our Grade 6, 7 & 8 students that submitted stunning posters for the Markham Fair poster contest in the categories of Canadian Agriculture and Harvest, Free to Be Me and Showing Kindness.

St. Matthew CES placed 11th overall and brought home 17 wins for their amazing work.
